Former BBC presenter Mark Mardell reveals he has Parkinson's disease

Mardell. who left the BBC in 2020 after 30 years at the corporation, was advised by a friend who is also a physiotherapist to see a doctor in May.

Charity Parkinson's UK estimates that around 145,000 people in the UK are living with the disease, with that number predicted to grow as life expectancy increases.The three main symptoms are involuntary shaking, slow movement and stiff and inflexible muscles Parkinson's disease is caused by a loss of nerve cells in part of the brain called the substantia nigra
