Medical marijuana will be a better alternative treatment for about 70 types of diseases, including autism, epilepsy, depression, Parkinson’s, glaucoma and other non-cancerous diseases, said medical experts.

Public health expert and Gleneagles Medini Hospital CEO Dr Kamal Amzan said studies have shown that medical marijuana helps to reduce tremors, eases movement and helps patients sleep comfortably. “There will be no more tremors because of this attachment of cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol to the receptors in the brain. This will make patients move and sleep better, and at the same time improve their mood.”

In treating mental health disorders with medical marijuana, Malaysian Allied Health Sciences Academy Faculty of Medicine head Prof Dr Mohamad Hussain Habil said from his experience, medical marijuana has helped patients with autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder and anxiety. Hussain added that medical marijuana could help patients whose quality of life is affected by their behavioural problems.
