The man, who was not identified, had other health conditions in addition to monkeypox, Ohio Department of Health spokesman Ken Gordon said.

FILE - A vial containing the monkeypox vaccine and a syringe is set on the table at a vaccination clinic run by the Mecklenburg County Public Health Department in Charlotte, N.C., Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022. COLUMBUS, Ohio - An adult male has died with monkeypox, the first death associated with the virus in the state, the Ohio Department of Health announced Thursday.

Cuyahoga County continues to lead the state in monkeypox infections, with 140 total. Franklin County has the second most, with 44 cases, and Summit County is third, with 16. Infections with the type of monkeypox spreading in the recent national outbreak are rarely fatal, Gordon said.
