Some rank and file personnel in the Nigeria Police Force, who have qualified as lawyers have called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the authorities concerned to intervene regarding their delayed promotions. According to them, their colleagues who qualified as medical doctors and engineers have since been elevated to senior ranks while many of them remain as sergeants or corporals 10 years after joining the Force. Speaking to SaharaReporters, the officers accused the leadership of the police and the Police Service Commission of insensitivity to their plight.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, the officers accused the leadership of the police and the Police Service Commission of insensitivity to their plight. They further lamented that numerous efforts made to ensure the promotion of junior police lawyers who are on grade levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 have not yielded positive results.

“What is more, our professional colleagues in the police, medical doctors even veterinary surgeons were elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police in 2016. Whereas, we have been clamouring for elevation due to our cadre since 2011 and nobody paid attention to those of us who are lawyers.
