This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement between Canada and the United States, which is happening with relatively little fanfare.
There is no hint of our prime minister or the president planning to come together as Richard Nixon and Pierre Trudeau did in 1972 to protect this unique and precious watershed. Our water communities, led by Indigenous leaders who have been doing this work since time immemorial, are coming together to renew our commitments and celebrate the Great Lakes — but will our leaders be listening?in 1909, creating the International Joint Commission to prevent and resolve disputes between settlers over waterways used for irrigation and hydroelectric development.
Further updates were signed to reflect adverse effects of agricultural runoff and sewage management, industrial pollution, habitat destruction, water levels and allowable water use in the lakes.
THats hard to do when government dump raw sewage into out drinking water. Can't even swim in it most of the time.
Keep importing 10,000 people a week, that should help
Our Great Lakes will be evaporated by 2035 if we do not act now to stop climate change!
