Alycia Schlesinger was finally getting the help she needed more than a year ago after living on the streets.
Unfortunately, the 50-year-old woman and former motivational speaker had her medication discontinued by her doctor and since then, Godwin said she has regressed. But her family is trying to figure out why the doctor opted to discontinue the medication Schlesinger was using. Her family has gotten little to no answers from Schlesinger's former doctor.Schlesinger was required to attend therapy multiple times a week by the courts, because she had two outstanding felonies.
Godwin attempted to contact her sister's doctor's office. She told them,"Please let the doctor know Alycia is spiraling and she is going to lose it, and nobody responded."
HIPAA has an exception for mental illness. Even a friend can step in if the person needs help but can't seek it. There is only one HIPAA law. Those with an illness like this should put their loved ones on a durable power of attorney.

My kid is on my insurance until age 26 but I can’t make medical decisions on their part? Craziness. Your 14 year old daughter gets pregnant you can’t even be in the room for appointments or the birth if she doesn’t want you in there. Wild.
Why not make laws or lack thereof to make things harder on families and everyone to help those in need
