The obesity paradox in lungcancer diagnosis may differ by race

]. Inclusion criteria were as follows: age 55 to 74 years and current or former smoker with at least a 30 pack-year history; former smokers had to have quit within the past 15 years. Screening, either LDCT or chest radiography, was offered to NLST participants annually for 3 consecutive years. The median follow-up time was 7 years. Approval for this project was obtained from the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Data Access System on October 16, 2017 and renewed on November 2, 2020.

]. In this analysis, we combined underweight with normal since less than 1% of NLST participants were underweight. We also excluded 326 participants who did not have BMI recorded.
