The health sector in Davao City is not particularly happy with the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force to make the wearing of face masks voluntary outdoors, which was reportedly approved “verbally” by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“Divided ang atong health sector ana, ang uban pro but mostly are not in favor. Naay kabalaka because the burden would be on us specially sa mga hospitals and community health practitioners naa sa amo ang burden to keep the community healthy. It’s also very hard to see a lot of sick people basin maabot sa point na mapuno na pud ang atong mga hospitals. There are worries like that ug specially na dili ingon ana ang output for our booster doses.

“We are still imposing the mandatory wearing of face mask because it is what is stated under our city ordinance, unlike other provinces and cities nga wala sila’y ordinance. They just follow the IATF but for Davao City, we are unique because we have this ordinance to follow and impose,” he said during I-Speak media forum on Thursday.

Lopez reported that as of September 7, 2022, the city has recorded 114 new cases of Covid-19 and this is a high number compared to the surge in January 2022. The city has a total of 610 active Covid-19 cases. The weekly recovery rate is high at 96.5 percent.
