The science table's memo to Public Health Ontario, sent this week, sets out a long list of concerns with what they describe as the agency's plan. They write that it will stifle the new group's independence in selecting topics to pursue, not allow for outside scientists to collaborate with them on briefs, and hamper the group's ability to communicate findings to the public.
But according to an Aug. 22 memo sent from a science table negotiating committee, it had been trying to work with Public Health Ontario on a new mandate for the group since it moved under that agency's umbrella in April from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. In a statement earlier Friday after the science table said it was still in the process of finalizing a new mandate.
"The Science Table's work reflects the remarkable dedication of the hundreds of volunteer scientists, physicians and administrators who devoted their time to the effort," they wrote.

Question: what's stopping concerned scientists and medical pros from forming a new and independent C19 Science Table? Surely there are some organizations who'll front some $$ in support. Not ideal but would be a huge help.

And this new 'smaller group of advisors' will be paid from taxpayers money. Pubic Health Ontario managed fine without them, so why do we need them now

This is suspect, this willy-nilly disbanding of this group. Ford tends to act arbitrarily in his haste to keep Ontario 'open'. The province needs to know what is going on with the variety of threats to health that emerged these past few years.

Clearly it will no longer be independent if the province is selecting who gets to be on the new smaller table. Wonder if it will be science-driven or policy driven?
