David Eby, expected to replace Premier John Horgan, mulls involuntary treatment for repeat overdose patients who won\u0027t seek it themselves

Eby commented that, “When someone overdoses twice in a day and they show up in the emergency room for the second time — a second overdose in the same day — the idea that we release that person back out into the street to overdose the third time and die or to have profound brain injury or just to come back to the emergency room again, seems very bizarre.

The result is a species of political madness you can detect if you know the context of Eby’s comment. In 2020, Horgan’s NDP introduced a bill that would allow minors who overdose to be treated for drug addiction involuntarily.
