Darshan Arora attended Fiona Stanley Hospital at about 10am Sunday morning for treatment of his kidney issues.Family friend Philip Couper told 7NEWS Arora waited four hours for treatment in the emergency department as his condition rapidly deteriorated.
After the grandfather was finally admitted, Couper claims Arora was given a 30 milligram dose of blood pressure medication - six times the 5mg dose he usually takes. Darshan Arora is fighting for life in intensive care at Fiona Stanley Hospital after a major medical bungle.Couper claims Arora’s insulin supply was also reduced, the combination of which left him in renal failure and requiring ongoing dialysis.
A member of the Indian community was meant to help out at the hospital as English is not Arora’s first language, Couper says, but the hospital allegedly refused.“It has been catastrophic,” Couper said, adding Arora was now living on shortened time.Close friends claim the 66-year-old waited four hours to be seen in the emergency department as his condition rapidly deteriorated.South Metro Health Service, which runs Fiona Stanley Hospital, would not confirm the claims to 7NEWS.
Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson confirmed Arora’s treatment is being investigated as a severity assessment code one clinical incident - a medical incident where death of serious harm could have been caused by medical treatment.“We take these incidents very seriously and there’ll be a full and thorough investigation.”It comes a day before a coronial inquest is due to begin into the death of seven-year-old Aishwarya Aswath at Perth Children’s Hospital in April last year.
