The medication by the company Pharmascience is sold in pharmacies in bottles of 100 tablets for distribution to consumers. The 8-milligram tablet is white with the number “8” marked on one side.

People in possession of such medication at home should verify the contents of the bottle so as to ensure they have the right dosage.warns in a statement that accidentally taking too high a dose of hydromorphone, or a sudden increase in the dosage, could lead to an overdose which can put people’s lives in danger, even among people who have a certain tolerance to opioids.

Symptoms of an overdose of hydromorphone include dizziness, sleepiness, confusion, low heart rate, slow and difficult breathing, cold and sweaty skin, convulsions, coma and death. If a person has accidentally taken the 8-milligram tablet of hydromorphone instead of the 2-milligram tablet, they should immediately contact a health professional or a regional anti-poison centre, even if they have no symptoms. If naloxone is available, one should prepare to administer it, Health Canada advises.
