‘Lisa LaFlamme’s dismissal feels like a reflection of the times. Frankly, I don’t think it matters to most people who reads the news to them.’ Fallout at CTV News, plus other letters to the editor for Aug. 21

: To have the head of a national media organization question whether or not a national media figure should or should not have natural grey hair is disgusting. How ironic. Having not apparently used any grey matter regarding Lisa LaFlamme’s employment as an anchor, her former CTV News bosses probably have a lot more grey hairs themselves – a byproduct of many Canadians’ distaste of their seemingly ageist and sexist decision-making.I am 51. I do not need to stay up until 11 p.m.

As a family doctor, I treat women every day who become anxious and depressed or refuse to eat because they cannot live up to some fallacy that is portrayed in media. I urge CBC to grab the opportunity as Canada’s public broadcaster and do the right thing. As many commenters have pointed out, it’s not what Bell Media has done but how it was done. There should have been a more respectful process to acknowledge and honour Lisa LaFlamme’s lengthy, successful career.

Wake up, the internet created real communication. Fake news is real. Now respectable journalists that people liked are being replaced. TV lost big

Your wrong! It does matter who we hear our news from! Lisa LaFamme is trusted, familiar and has well earned her audience. Sad for sure

I still believe that she was fired because of her left wing very biased so-called reporting which caused many viewers to stop watching CTV news.

If CTV EMPLOYEES have courage - they should strike and not return until LisaLaFlamme_ is reinstated. If CTV executives treat competent employees in this manner - then all CTV employees have lots to lose. Stand up for one another and it won’t happen again.

So if it doesn’t matter why fire her? I believe it would cost them more to payout a contract than to wait… if it doesn’t matter that is? Let’s not give BellMediaPR any excuses. Supporting LisaLaFlamme_ and avoiding all Bell Media.

CTV is a private company. They have the right to cancel anyones contract.

It's a blessing. She gets to find work well ahead of the others that will be without jobs when the funding is cut.

Where were the indignant letters and viewer complaints when the massively talented and experienced news announcer Alison Smith was passed over as CBC's 1 news announcer in favour of that feminist favourite Peter Mansbridge?

No one from CTV HR will suffer any consequences, nor will his or her name be published

I love Lisa's overall presentation as an anchor, very professional. That being said, there don't really seem to be any good guys in this story.

Really needed to dig to find your reference. A bit shady.

Does it matter who sings a song? Timbre, the pitch of voice and diction either draw you in or cause you to change the channel. Lisa LaFlamme is tops in these areas - could be a bit preachy but honestly always came back to her national news

I've never really paid attention to which head reads the news, it could be an AI bot. That said if your aim is to increase viewers through the age, gender or race of the news reader you really aren't delivering news of any value.

GlobeDebate Oh well: You always have CBC or CNN or even the Toronto Star.

GlobeDebate LaFlamme was a pretentious performer as CTV news reader 1. Her disappearance has been a useful catalyst to drawing out her equally pretentious fans, all seemingly reliant on her for their bit of canned news necessary to confirm their conformist, stagnant view of the world.

The fact that she demonstrated to all Canadians that going through Covid she wasn't going to get her hair privately coloured with an illegal hairdresser while the rest of 🇨🇦 women went with gray streaks or have to buy LOrealParisUSA & hope and pray! FireMisogynistMelling

It really doesn’t matter who reads the news but what does matter is how a long term employee, a woman that let her hair turn its natural colour, was let go probably because of her age.

The problem is that after 54, you are not wanted as a TV viewer. Advertisers actually won't pay for old viewers. My guess is they are trying to attract younger viewers to keep ad revenue up. Blame advertising.

Still the same, nothing has changed in corporate world. A female, no matter how good at her job, how accomplished and successful, always has a male foot pressing down on her neck, pressing down to the bare floor for no reason other misogyny, selfishness, greed f…..male ego.

Opinion | Doug Ford hasn’t revealed a plan to dismantle public health care — or one to fix itDoug Ford hasn’t revealed a plan to dismantle public health care — or one to fix it. There’s no need to contrive a crisis in health care when the system seems constantly in distress. Opinion by reggcohn reggcohn If You remember history, the decline of our service systems here in Ontario started when Mike Harris was premier. He caused a tremendous damage in our province that liberals and conservatives after him have not been able to fix the problems so Ford is not the exception. His end game is privatization. reggcohn Ford's gov't has no idea what they're doing. None. They're begging the private sector to 'save' them. They're in way over their heads...and they know it.
