The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is conducting tests to confirm the cause of the infection. If confirmed, this would be the first naegleria fowleri death in Nebraska's history, officials say.

The child was in hospital within 48 hours after the onset of symptoms and died 10 days later, according to Douglas County Health Department. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is conducting tests to confirm the cause of the infection, said Dr Lindsay Huse, director of Douglas County Health Department.
