When I was in Ireland, I didn't mind it. It was the first time I consulted a doctor while abroad somewhere and I was nervous about maybe not understanding some medical jargon or something, so I loved how friendly everyone was. Huge difference to Germany and very personal.

It seems more person centered to refer to someone with affection. Drop the gendered terms; 'love' can stay. (But no hon!)
who comes up with these rules? my personal favorite was a nurse who always called me 'flowerpot'. i loved it! asked her why not flower, was i only good enough for 'pot'? she told me her mom used to call people that. made her human at a time i felt vulnerable and needed that.

That’s a shame. As a patient it’s nice and reassuring to be treated like a feeling human being by someone who at least acts like they care & sympathize.
I dunno, personally I quite like it when someone calls me a pet-name. Seems warmer to me than just referring to me by name. But maybe that's just me 😅
'More' person centred? I'd sooner someone talk to me in their own vernacular and not like 'bots'.
