Things have been getting foggy at Mind Medicine Australia after an ABC investigation.

Three hours before the allegations were aired, MMA was demonstrating how not to respond to media criticism. “We haven’t yet seen the episode that is airing tonight, but we can confirm that whilst we are imperfect and have made mistakes, the [ABC’s preview] article this morning has made multiple claims that are factually inaccurate and designed to harm our charitable mission to support the millions who are suffering,” read an MMA email sent to its followers.

“It is deeply concerning that our taxpayer-funded national broadcaster is trying to do a hit piece on the only charity in this field and one with truly pure and sincere philanthropic intentions...” A hastily organised Zoom conference on Tuesday night fared no better. We’re told members conveyed anger about de Jong’s quirky but uninspired YouTube song about mushrooms , the disclosure of personal details in a draft media release, and MMA’s relationship with the ASX-listed drug manufacturer Emyria. Not only did Hunt lose his cool, de Jong was visibly upset to the point of excusing herself.
