Etches leaving masking decisions up to businesses ottnews ottawa

Medical officer of health encouraging businesses to use masks, but says a citywide mandate isn’t necessaryA sign in front of a clothing shop advises customers to wear a mask at the Bayshore Shopping Centre in Ottawa, on its first day open as part of Stage 2 of Ontario's plan to lift COVID-19 pandemic restrictions June 12, 2020.

While the Omicron variant and its sub-variants are highly transmissible, Etches told CBC that mandates are not necessary since people aren't experiencing the same level of severe illness as they had during previous waves. "There are immunocompromised people in the community. They need to go to the grocery store. They need to take transit."CBC reached out to several local businesses that said they are unsure of how they will proceed and declined to be interviewed at this time.

"This summer is the first normal one a lot [of businesses] are facing in two years, and to have to make a decision or determination that could possibly deter customers … realistically, just small businesses are not in a position to do that," Mallough said.

A complete abdication to idiots is not public health. Businesses and workers shouldn’t be in charge of piecemeal mandates that are impossible, unprofitable, or dangerous for them to enforce. Do your job VeraEtches. This is your lowest moment to date, which says quite a lot.

Etches wanting businesses to do her job that she gets paid for.

🙏 May this be the final Ottawa mask story. Praise be.

Vera who? Oh, I vaguely remember. It's the head of Ottawa Public Health who abandoned the community about a year ago, isn't she? She was asked: why not mask mandates? Her non-answer: No, we don't want to have a lockdown. The interviewer didn't say: That was not my question.

I guess that’s what $325K per year gets you …1 statement every 3 months that “encourages” people to do things. Where’s the leadership you were showing at the beginning of the pandemic?
