‘Besides Canadian health care, who uses fax technology?’ Is the system broken? Letters to the editor for July 15

: I was a family doctor for 42 years and worked under fee-for-service for most of that time, but was on an alternative funding contract for the last 12 years.

Yes, there were some physicians who would “churn” patients through fee-for-service. But the ethos of practice frowned upon that method. We would always fit patients in on the same day if they were ill. Visits were occasionally brief, but at least a sick patient could see their doctor without a 10-hour emergency-room wait.

Under alternative funding, doctors are guaranteed an income so there is no incentive for some to provide comprehensive care for “clients.” It is far easier to book weeks ahead, finish by 5 p.m. and never stay late or cut lunch short to fit in an acute problem. Provinces should recognize that “alternative funding” has failed and reintroduce a new model, even with some fee-for-service.

Fax gets converted to an email .

These 2 lovely ladies still love to fax.

They use fax in Japan. It's still big there.

I don't think that 🇨🇦's healthcare system is broken because MDs use a fax. Dumb! The CPC_HQ Premiers have received $B in additional Federal Covid funding & have squirreled/hidden it away from their respective Auditor Generals!

It was a privacy issue. You don't want you medical records being emailed around . These clowns can barely keep the system running, they have no concept on keeping personal health info in emails safe so, fax is the safest point to point communication of health records

One positive is that Canadian doctors won't be moving to the US as their skills are too outdated. Robotics is everywhere and our surgeons have no clue.

Japan iykyk

Brain tumor patient in Honolulu here. Taken to Emergency on a Tuesday evening, CT scan in 20 minutes, admitted 40 minutes later, met neurosurgeon and had 1st MRI on Wednesday. Surgery already booked. Another MRI on Thursday (surgeon's 'GPS') and then my surgery Friday morning.

Are you suggesting that Canadian hospitals are dated?

I'm curious what happens when all the customers from one network come over to the other one ? Might be some capacity issues. Not a Rogers customer; but living in Windsor, I was not able to use a debit card in any store - only cash or credit. I never carry cash, but luckily did have a credit card; but, if I didn't, I'd be screwed for ...? and I'd still be compensated $0.00. Seems like a big deal!!
