The message experts have received loud and clear is that the time for mandates “is over”. This unwillingness to talk about any new or reinstated public health mandates seems to have extended to generalised COVID-19 avoidance. | aishamae

Australia’s coronavirus experts often don’t agree. But there has been one big exception over the past couple of months.

As Professor Tarun Weeramanthri, the president of the Public Health Association of Australia, says, no one is suggesting that we go back into lockdowns. However, when asked on Saturday about a return to mask mandates, senior Victorian government minister Lily D’Ambrosio said that the state had “the right settings in place”. She also rejected the idea that the upcoming state election in November had any impact on the decisions being made.

What’s not clear is how much this approach might cost Victoria, in infections, absenteeism, hospitalisations, deaths, and long COVID. The Victorian government hasn’t released detailed modelling on the pandemic for some time.

aishamae Absolutely. They should have been over way before now. Move on people. Get a grip and move on or don't. And live in fear for the rest of your life. Life goes on, always has, always Will. Sooner you face that the better. Deal with itor don't leave your home

aishamae Most people now loosing their life to COVID are in aged care even though vaccination is mandated for staff which ignores the fact vaccination does not prevent transmission ?

aishamae Public health orders saved us while we waited for the vaccine to be available. Terribly inconveinient but better than dying with a hose down your neck. Victorian opposition promises to repeal the pandemic response law if elected in November. Variants may side step vaccines FFS.

aishamae I'm sure a profitable solution will continue to be found at the detriment of the people

aishamae I think our governments are underestimating the concern in the community about Covid. The majority would mostly be prepared to comply with new restrictions and mandates if they were demonstrated to make a difference.

aishamae To quote Josif Visoronovič Stalin : one lost life is tragedy, 10 lost lives is catastrophe, one million lost lives is statistic.

aishamae It is a disingenuous question to ask “how many deaths are acceptable?”. Of course the answer is zero. It’s far better to ask, what can we do to minimise the deaths whilst keeping society functioning, and what could we have done for those who died to keep them alive, if anything?

aishamae An outcome argued for tirelessly. Remember old Chip’s apologist articles re anti vaxxers pissing on memorials as “just misunderstood”? This is entirely on an MSM who refused to engage with health advice, who just added to confusion and dissent. On your heads.

aishamae People, especially healthy, young people, want to LIVE, I mean really LIVE, while they can. Vulnerable people need to be protected from COVID but for many it's an acceptably low-risk disease (and they've had it already so they know from first-hand experience).
