Canada will require that companies add nutrition warnings to the front of pre-packaged food with high levels of saturated fat, sugar or sodium, starting in 2026.

In general, they’ll apply on pre-packaged foods that contain more than 15 per cent of the suggested daily value of saturated fat, sugars or sodium.

Ground meat is among a list of foods exempt from the warning labels even if they’re high in fat or salt. The product was deemed to have health benefits in spite of high levels of the nutrients. The rules are set to come into force at the beginning of 2026, which the government says gives companies ample time to manage the costs of adjusting their packaging.

Health Canada will also limit the size of “voluntary health-related information,” such as labels that proclaim an item high in fibre. The proposed labels were at the centre of controversy earlier this month when a group of ranchers opposed the government’s plan to include warnings on ground meat.

and everyone will say, “no shit”

Why not let food companies regulate themselves like how government prefers gangs and drug cartels regulate and distribute heroin/cocaine? No ID needed for heroin and cocaine, does this help or hurt gangs and drug cartels? Do drug cartels said thank you notes to politicians?

'Now, Health Canada has exempted single-ingredient ground meat from the warning labels, even if it’s high in fat. The product was deemed to have health benefits in spite of the “nutrients of concern,” along with milk, many cheeses and fruit.' So this won't need one. Healthy!

Just wait til theyll start adding 'Cultural Appropriation' warnings on all packaging and labels.

OK, they can do it. But the way things are in the world, the time may come soon that we, the world pop will eat anything edible. With sanctions on Rus as result of USA state of permanent wars, food my be the 1 problem we have. With 7B ppl plus without Rus no chance to feed them

Why does everything cost more these days? I wonder.... I am sure it has nothing to do with endless bureaucracy.....

MaintenancePod it doesn’t actually do anything so let’s do it MORE!
