The lab, located in Hebron, Kentucky, will process the last test sample on July 2nd, according to people familiar with the matter. Amazon has conducted millions of COVID-19 tests after launching the lab in 2020 for its front-line workers and customers, andAmazon's decision to close the COVID testing lab came after seeing test volume drop significantly in recent months, making it hard to justify its maintenance cost, one of the people said.
In an email to Insider, Amazon's spokesperson confirmed the lab's closure:"As a result of COVID-19 declining, more testing options readily available, and broader access to vaccines in our communities, we're discontinuing both our employee and customer COVID-19 tests, and closing our labs later this year."
The move signals the receding threat of the pandemic for Amazon. The retail giant came under immense pressure for the lack of COVID safety measures
