Health Canada is proposing mandatory front-of-package nutrition labelling for foods high in sodium, sugar and saturated fat.

Ranchers are criticizing Health Canada over the agency's proposal to include ground beef products in a plan to introduce mandatory front-of-package nutrition labelling for foods high in sodium, sugar and saturated fat.

"We want people cooking at home more, not less," said Ryder Lee, CEO of the Saskatchewan Cattleman's Association. "You think of spaghetti sauce and chili or Taco Tuesday. You don't need a warning against those."A group of ranchers is pushing back against new ground beef labelling proposed by the federal government. Melanie Wowk, the chair of Alberta Beef Producers, explains why ranchers are frustrated with the proposal.

And the association says beef is a whole food that should be exempt from the regulations as are other meats, milk, eggs, vegetables and fruit. "Anything that makes people have a little doubt is one thing," he said, adding it will also hurt exports.

Yet they don't even allow for informed consent for a very toxic and unnecessary poison. Therefore I will simply eat more meat, because health Canada doesn't care about our health. They just tell lies

Things i taught my son... Now 17... Poor young man born into this ever changing uncomfortable world...it always something changing...

But really...why? We're only going to eat it, if we can still afford groceries after fuel, bills and rent.

The perspective of the rancher is of the cow in the field. If they followed said cow to the butcher and into the frypan, Gertrude takes on a different meaning. Like do these farmers not fry ground beef? Is that clear bubbly stuff or that white coagulant just sugar? cdnpoli

Totally unnecessary Only Rise more cost of food.

Do it... Health

GovCanHealth make sure those are bolded on the label. Also without educating the public about the danger of too much daily intake of those then how do you think those change in the labels will change the consumer's mindset in reading them & ultimately caring about what is on it?

Won’t do any good for health but will give food producers another reason to raise cost.

I’d rather see this money spent on increasing access to healthy whole foods and ingredients. Unhealthy diet is pretty heavily tied to poverty.

Cue the wanna be nutritionists…

That’s a waste of time and money

Because it’s so hard to be sure what’s in a single-ingredient product.

It won’t stop me from buying it.

Actual Nutrition Scientist here: The label will simply be stating a Fact- Ground beef is high in fat! And Fast Food companies already have to disclose the fat and other nutrients in all their foods. Up to the consumer if they care to look at any labelling and use the info!

Health Canada needs to back off - there aren't any warnings on liquor bottles!

While sugar is the real culprit

It’s long overdue.

Good. Stop pretending meat is good for you. You can like it, but stop pretending.

Great news. About time, the USA has been doing this for years.

We deserve to know what we are eating so we can make informed choices

Canada love making it hard for small family farms because they want Maga farm to produce all the food in Canada.

Processed meats should be labeled the same way cigarettes are. Both are designated the same level of cancer causing agent by WHO. So why are cigarettes required to be labeled, but not processed meats?

Finally

Never a fucking warning or photos of squashed heads, destructive car accidents, wounds or liver cirrhosis pictures on alcohol bottles. Not that I want warnings on anything but where does this shlt end ?

How long before they put graphic warnings like on tobacco products?

it’s the war on meat agenda…. they want you to eat bugs and chemical lan grown meat to further line Gates pockets and control meat consumption.

We need warning labels on CBC journalists and MP’s, not beef.

Pretty good idea, actually. Don't know about you, but I'll at least be more encouraged to make better choices.

Just a bunch of woke nonsense.

All of a sudden everyone is a fucking professional nutritionist.

Long overdue. Won't happen. Food industry has too much money.

What about bottling dates for anything in single use plastic, like water

Ken34205423 A big todo about nothing cuts to education and healthcare should be front and center in every paper .

I'd say we should get front of the package info for all of the chemicals that are in the beyond meat garbage, bit there isn't enough room on the package for that or the font would have to be so small that you'd need a microscope to read it. That of course would offend snowflakes

I think people might be getting just a little tired of being told what is and is not good for them.

Just another way to raise costs for consumers

Thank god a price increase, keep up the great work Canadian government.

Knowledge is power. It's always good to arm the consumer.

OMG... everyone know that ground beef (i.e. hamburg beef) is higher in saturated fats... why is this an issue?

Bread and pasta first

What ever Health Canada is doing, they're doing it wrong. Obesity, and deaths related to it, have been trending up since the 1970s.

Eating fat does not make you fat. Insulin is the fat storage hormone, and consuming fat has a lower effect on insulin than carbs or protein. The sodium and sugar warnings are good, but not the ground meat.

It isn't ground beef giving Canadians fat asses or clogged arteries.

Informed decision. Why not.

Let’s just throw in some more regulations. High 6 figure salaried government decision makers have to try and justify their jobs and free lunches some how.

Why not force them to label the increased costs in production caused by carbon taxes?

The information is already there. Canadians generally don't care about nutrition, exercise or healthy living. This is also part of the health crisis in this country.

If it’s meat, it shouldn’t hat Ve to have a label. Unless there are additives. But usually meat is just meat.

Heath Canada seemed to be attacked by vegans…

I think it should be limited to processed foods.

Really tired of the beef industry. It is cruel, really bad for the environment and wasteful of land and water. Now they are whining about giving their customers more information about their product. They need to get over themselves.

Are they doing this to the actual unhealthy stuff, like the packaged garbage in the aisles?

Come on Ranchers that is so trivial a little bit more labelling is not going to stop real meat eaters from devouring more of your beef and saturated fats.what y’all scared of…vegetarians.

These fuckin bureaucrats need to be layed off en masse. There is way too much bullshit process in every sector of Canadian industry and it is positively stifling. The results speak for themselves.

Why not front of packaging on all food? Transparency is key, so everyone should be held to that standard.

Just turn the package over. It's already listed. What's the beef? Ha Ha. Pun. Intended.

Regulate the retail that add water, salt, fat to hamburger so they can get more money for less healthy meat. Lean beef is heathy.

If ranchers have a beef with this new regulation, it makes you wonder what they're trying to hide. 🤔 -

No, no, no, no, no. Enough with the Nanny state. Seriously. Just butt out of our lives.

Government spends a great deal on anti-smoking. Can do same to protect against other health issues too.

Seems they are speaking for the food producers to protect their profits. And packaged export products wouldn't have to have Canadian mandatory labeling?

Klaus approves. You will eat bugs and be happy.

Canada state-affiliated media

Should also be taxing meat and animals products to help pay for the damage. Instead of subsidizing them. 'Nearly all global farm subsidies harm people and planet – UN

Guess McDonald’s will have to label all their hamburgers too. They’re made from Canadian beef. Not sure fast food restaurants would like that eh🤔?

I wish they would do that before they print money and blame Russia for inflation. But who I’m i.

Now all of a sudden you care about her health but you try to inject Canadians with an experimental drug

Lol mad at facts

ranchers are just mad that beef is one of the lowest forms of meat protein

What do you think about adding a label: 'switch to vegetarian' to become more environmental?

salt beef? where we at bouy?
