There are plenty of health reasons to avoid excess sugar that have nothing to do with body fat.

Part of what makes the question of food addiction so tricky is the “stigma and emotion” around the word. “If you go to a doctor and say, ‘I have a food addiction,’ they’ll say, ‘There’s no such thing’,” Brown argues. “If you say, ‘I have a problem with my eating behaviour and it is compulsive in nature,’ … [the doctor will] be much more accepting.” She prefers, a term encompassing behaviours which experts who treat and study disordered eating don’t yet have a formal diagnosis for.
