Opinion: 'While the Lougheed era ushered in the hope of many made-in-Alberta medical miracles, Premier Jason Kenney and the UCP seem just as keen to usher it out.' ✍️ Writes Gillian Steward

There was a time in Alberta when its political leaders aimed to make the province a hub of medical research and clinical practice that would attract superstars and rank with the best in the world.

While the Lougheed era ushered in the hope of many made-in-Alberta medical miracles, Premier Jason Kenney and the UCP seem just as keen to usher it out.by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta in March, Alberta lost 568 doctors in 2021. On the other side of the ledger there were 613 new registrants. But the net increase of 45 doctors was significantly lower than five years ago, when 328 doctors were added.

jkenney , shandro, JasonCoppingAB destroyers destroyers destroyers so many unnecessary deaths from covid so many unnecessary deaths from lack of public health care death and destruction from *all* UCP mla's not one tried to stop the destruction, the deaths, the shame.

Alberta spends more on healthcare per capita on healthcare than any province in Canada but only middle of the road performance. Changes are needed. Changes are coming.

Jason Kenney needs to step down.
