Pugs cannot be considered a 'typical dog' due to their health issues: study

A new study has found that pugs face such serious health conditions that they can "no longer be considered as a typical dog from the perspective of its disorder profile."College in the U.K., found that the breed has "diverged substantially" from other dogs in suffering from increased health risks affecting the airways and the eyes, which can be detrimental to the overall health of pugs.

According to the study, pugs were found to have an increased risk for 23 disorders as well as a higher risk of skin infections. According to the findings, pugs are 54 times more likely to have brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome , 51 times more likely to have narrowed nostrils, 11 times more likely to have skin fold infections, and nearly 10 times more likely to experience ear discharge.

In addition, the study found than more than 17 per cent of the pugs evaluated were obese, compared to less than seven percent of other dogs.

I have a pug and he’s almost 8 and he’s not a typical dog he’s more like a piglet lol. Btw has minor health issues I guess I’m lucky ☺️. Love my pug ❤️

I've owned a lab and a pug, trust me, pugs aren't typical.

I adore pugs, but their very existence is needlessly cruel given the significant pain and myriad health problems they will inevitably suffer from. It breaks my heart to say, but they have to stop breeding them
