So, is there any truth to this Facebook post claiming health regulations have expired? We checked.

“Gesondheidsregulasies verval vandag” begins a Facebook post in Afrikaans published on 4 May 2022. This translates to: “Health regulations expire today.”

This translates to: “This means that there are no more rules regarding the wearing of face masks, or restrictions on the number of people who may attend events.” He said that the pandemic would be managed in terms of the National Health Act and that “transitional measures” would be introduced until new regulations in the act came into effect.

The DMA regulations came to an end on the 4/4/22. A 30 day advisory was issued by DlaminiZuma. That is: it was advisable to wear a mask for the next 30 days, but it was not an offence. HealthZA comes from out of the blue with its own regulations without sanction. An empty rule.
