Gardai have launched a probe into the death of a man in Limerick City last night after he was assaulted on the street.

He was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment but later passed away according to gardai.Meanwhile, the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem is being conducted later today.Gardaí say they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault and have asked for anyone that may have been in the Parnell Street, Lord Edward Street, and Davis Street areas of Limerick last night, between 10:00 pm and 10:40 pm to come forward.

A statement released this morning by An Garda Siochana confirmed: “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault of a man that occurred at Parnell Street, Limerick, yesterday evening, Friday 15th April 2022.
