Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has received a briefing from a senior civil servant on the abandoned move of Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan to Trinity College

The information was compiled by the Secretary General at the Department of Health, Robert Watt.

Yesterday, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said it was regrettable that the move was not going ahead, but he added there should have been transparency on the details from the outset. The Opposition has strongly criticised both Mr Donnelly and Mr Watt for their roles in the controversy when it emerged that Dr Holohan was moving on an open-ended secondment, with the funding for the role coming from the Department of Health.

Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane said Mr Donnelly had serious questions to answer and his civil servants were running rings around him. He was told to mind his own business
