Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said it is regrettable that Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan will not be taking up his role with Trinity College Dublin, but he said there should have been transparency on the details from the outset.

Speaking to reporters in Dublin this afternoon, the Taoiseach said if there was a broader deliberation on the position, it could have turned out differently, adding that lessons would have to be learned. Sinn Féin's health spokesperson said Dr Holohan's decision to retire was a loss to the public system, but that the circumstances that led to his resignation were"entirely the making of very senior civil servants".

Mr Cullinane said that there had to be fair procedures around public appointments and issues in relation to the public pay of senior officials. Speaking on the same programme, a former director general of the HSE said public health policy could have really benefitted from Dr Holohan's contribution to Trinity.

Man looks like a depressed undertaker

Even the brother SeanMartinFF1 didn't have the gall to like this.

Aaaaah stop nooow, 🤣 yeah aren't even hiding the corruption anymore. 🤣 KILLED a bunch of women with cancer, bonus! Killed the Irish with killer vaccine! Bonus! THEN, rewarded with Trinity!! MISTAKE! ALL, the fake work Tony! You're now known to history, for corruption 💪👍🤣

HOW MANY LESSONS NEED TO BE LEARNED Micheál? Zappone, Golfgate, Maurice Mc Cabe, Garda commissioners, the list is endless!

TCD have said that he can’t be replaced. They haven’t interviewed any other Public Health Specislists so how do they know?

Are these the same lessons we have still have to learn from the Cathrine Zapone fiasco

This shower of parasites are laughing at us!

Please shut up mehole you have to go

He now needs to order an outside and independent review of the senior civil service. It’s culture in blocking things like slainte care. Finding out who is really guiding its thinking and what inducements are being offered to subvert the work of government in each department.

Stabby stabby stabby. Revenge is sweet.

We are one absolute cunt of a country... we really are vile... same shit every time.. 'lessons will be learned'... fuck me pink... this country is rotten to the core.

'That's another fine mess' for your tenure Taoiseach , its only because of pressure and humiliation over the exposure .but hey Martin got another reason to be on the news ...nothing will change. He'll go to the private sector and lobby his contacts..HSE

Accountability! wattout FineGael appointment running rings around MichealMartinTD. Different rules for the elite fiannafailparty no lesson learned from Zappone scandal.

Master of spin.

Why doesn't Martin mention that TH has no PhD, no known peer reviewed research, no known 3rd level teaching, no known uni admin experience, no known track record of securing millions in funding. Did external panel approve him? TCD asks this of their profs & external applicants?

Stephen Donnelly Robert Watt should RESIGN These 2 & other senior figures have constantly showed contempt & disrespect to the Irish people & have abused their positions UNDERPERFORMING Ministers & Civil servants should be SACKED MichealMartinTD NO MORE BULL SH*T CRONYISM

Sounds like they got caught with they're pants down AGAIN!
