Dr Holohan said he will leave the public service after stepping down as CMO later this year.

My strong belief is that this was a significant opportunity to work with the university sector to develop much needed public health capacity and leadership for the future. “In this regard, I would like to thank Trinity College and the Provost for their foresight and support in establishing this role,” he said.

The move was initially announced last month, but information that the Department of Health would continue paying Dr Holohan’s salary after leaving his post at the department was not disclosed until this week.

A decent man who has served his country well fair play to him walking away with dignity from the begrougers and snake in the grass politicians who would run over their own mother to get a vote catching headline happy retirement DR Holahan thank you for your service

SF & Soc Dems hound Holohan out of office. Disgusting shame. What a loss to the state of an outstanding public servant.

'The university said that it had “Dr Holohan in mind” when the post was created.' Amazing admission of job-for-the-boy. So why even bother with that smokescreen interview?

I'm glad Dr Holohan did the right thing. The whole procedure looked so much like a job for the boys. That era is gone.

So is the job in Trinity still vacant?

It’s funny how the public short term memory gets shorter…. Do not forget it was this man who tried to silence Vicky Phelan!! He does not deserve the sympathy, too many families are without wifes mothers sister due to his negligence!!

Another Katherine Zappone mess up comes to mind.

A great day.
