PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 17,476 new Covid-19 infections on Friday (April 1), says the Health Ministry.

It said through data released on its CovidNow portal that this brings the total number of infections in the country to 4,219,395 cases since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry reported that there were 164 imported Covid-19 infections on Friday, with the remaining 17,312 cases being the result of local transmissions. The CovidNow portal also said that there were 17,321 recoveries on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in Malaysia to 206,979 cases.

Of the active cases, 97.6% or 206,979 individuals are undergoing home quarantine, while 615 people, or 0.3% of the active infections are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres . Only 2.0% of active cases or 8,658 individuals needed to be hospitalised, with 263 warded in intensive care units throughout the country.
