Domestic violence prevention, narrowing the gender pay gap and women’s health concerns are the key takeaways in this year’s Federal Budget when it comes to women.
The Morrison government says it’s also forking out $23 million over four years to help families who have experienced stillbirths or miscarriage, including establishing bereavement resources and education. To combat domestic violence, the Federal Government says it is committing a further $1.3 billion over six years to spur change under what it calls its National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022-2032.The additional funding will focus on the four primary pillars – prevention, early intervention, response, and recovery.
· $480.1 million is being allocated to fund programs that support women and children experiencing domestic violence, including extending the Escaping Violence Payments and Safe Places program It will be led by the Aboriginal and Torres Advisory Council on family, domestic violence, and sexual violence.The Budget claims the “gender pay gap continues to narrow” but also acknowledges “there is still more work to do to progress women’s economic security”.
