The Toronto Zoo says it will be closing its aviaries after learning that a bird flu has appeared in Ontario. Noting the flu is lethal to birds, the zoo emphasized that there have been no human cases detected in Canada.

the avian flu had been detected in a red-tailed hawk in Waterloo, Ont. That bird has since been euthanized.

The highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian flu, which has spread across Europe and the U.S. among both wild and commercial birds, has been detected in two Ontario farms, one on Sunday and another on Monday.
