After what they had originally thought was a lingering throat infection began to worsen to the point where Steven was unable to eat, doctors realised there was something else going on

Waterford man Steven developed a sore throat last summer and after going to the doctor a few times, was diagnosed with a simple throat infection.

His family member Abigail told RSVP Live: "His throat was getting worse and he was in pain. The doctor checked his weight and saw he had gone down from around 72kg to 56kg so they pushed for him to go to A&E. They gave him antibiotics for a throat infection but it didn't help.
