Alabama parents and advocates fear LGBTQ kids will be outed and cut off from treatment under a possible law.

The bill would also require teachers, school nurses, counselors and administrators to report to a student’s parent or guardian any information related to a student questioning their gender identity.

While the Whites said they’ve always felt supported by teachers and administrators who have swiftly enforced rules whenever their daughter experienced bullying or harassment, school personnel statewide say the requirement to report a student questioning their gender identity could erode the trust they’ve worked hard to build.

“If passed into law, this bill would require school counselors to break confidentiality by disclosing a student’s questioning their gender identity and our ethical standards,” said Birdsong. “I am very concerned for our LGBTQ students who are already at risk and I do think this population leans on the support of school counselors, who by nature are non judgmental, who are empathetic, who are there to support them.

“That would disrupt the entire environment and safety of this young person who could potentially be kicked out of their home, could potentially be put into really harmful therapy that is not supportive of their identity, and also, unfortunately, in some situations, they could experience both mental and physical abuse,” she said.

According to GLSEN, an organization that helps to ensure LGBTQ students are able to learn and grow in schools nationwide, the vast majority of LGBTQ students in Alabama regularly heard anti-LGBTQ remarks from both classmates and staff in schools, and nearly 80% of students surveyed experienced at least one form of discrimination in school, including not being allowed to use the bathroom that aligned with their gender identity.

All Democrats, Independents, Tea Party, and people like me, Republicans who, voted Blue and despise what the GOP has become. All Nees to Vote In the Midterms. To prevent our country from becoming an Authoritarian Nation. This is so very important. More than ever before.

This is so sad!

If we only had testing to determine if a child would be LGBTQ while in the uterus…..parents could then decide if the need to terminate. That’s how it works…. Right liberals?

Sweet Home Talabama

Pass a law banning religious indoctrination. Children cannot be exposed to religion until they’re an appropriate age. This will avoid warping their world view while also avoid terrifying them with threats of eternal damnation if they do wrong.

Forget Jesus, Mother Nature rolling in her grave ☠️

More shiny distractions for right wing cultists. Republicans are creating problems by trying to create laws to prevent something they have no understanding of. It’s not their business.

It sounds like a bad idea to issue these drugs to a child. We should teach tolerance and acceptance.

What treatment is there for LGB kids? They are no different than straight kids.

When old people in the state legislature do this shit because of some warped view of Christianity:

Can you imagine if a radical religion were to enforce their beliefs onto free Americans! Oh wait...
