Four Ukrainian children undergoing cancer treatment were airlifted from Poland to Memphis for continued therapy at St. Jude."There, the patients will be able to safely resume critical cancer therapy disrupted by the Kremlin’s aggression," the release read."They will receive the specialized care they desperately need, and their family members will be afforded sustenance, security, and support from St. Jude.
The statement emphasized children's relative vulnerability in a crisis and added,"We recognize, however, that the children transported represent a small proportion of the thousands of patients whose cancer treatment has been interrupted and, who, even amid a pandemic and with compromised immune systems, were forced to flee their homes.
Earlier this month, a Russian airstrike hit a maternity and children's hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine. Head of the Donetsk Regional Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko said multiple bombs were dropped on the hospital, and local police confirmed to CNN that at least 17 women and staff members suffered injuries."Mariupol. Direct strike of Russian troops at the maternity hospital. People, children are under the wreckage.
Mariupol. Direct strike of Russian troops at the maternity hospital. People, children are under the wreckage. Atrocity! How much longer will the world be an accomplice ignoring terror? Close the sky right now! Stop the killings! You have power but you seem to be losing humanity. pic.twitter.com/FoaNdbKH5k
