In 2021, WorkSafeBC received more than 3,400 inquiries related to bullying and harassment, and responded to 931 specific complaints of bullying and harassment in the workplace.
The numbers were down slightly from the year previous at 3,509 inquiries but staff responded to more — 1,001 — specific complaints. That compares with 4,579 enquires and 1,059 specific complaints in 2019, according to WorkSafeBC data. Examples of bullying and harassment include verbal aggression, personal attacks and other intimidating or humiliating behaviours and they can come from management, coworkers, or customers and clients, the agency said.
While all mistreatment of people is concerning and should ideally be prevented, the first priority must be on doctors and nurses & others who work in the health field abuse of patients. The harm members of the general public experience while being patients is really serious.
