Minister of health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has reiterated the federal government’s commitment to the welfare of adolescents in the country, saying that a budget line has been created at national levels for adolescents, with a two-year national costed work plan developed.
The minister, who stated this at a press briefing to commemorate the 2022 National/International Adolescent Health Week, in Abuja, also said that the national adolescent health policy is being domesticated at the subnational levels and frontline health workers’ capacities are being built and strengthened in collaboration with partners.
He said efforts are being made to strengthen effective coordination of adolescent health programmes across the country while urging all partners to replicate the same structure in their respective states to ensure continuous delivery of essential gender-responsive services and to mitigate barriers faced by adolescents and young people in accessing services.
The minister of state for health, Dr Adeleke Mamora, in his opening remarks said if any nation should grow and thrive, every attempt must be made to ensure the adolescents who are the soul of the population are adequately cared for.
Why not then do your best to keep them in school?
