States are grappling with how to handle misinformation spread by one unlikely group in particular: doctors.

In recent years, MacInnes’ dad began subscribing to conspiracy theories. His father spent a lot of time on Facebook, and believed posts that claimed COVID-19 vaccines were harmful and lining the pockets of government officials, MacInnes said. He believes his father may have been mentally ill, and the conspiracy theories helped him feel engaged.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation released a notice in November saying that doctors can face disciplinary action for failing to give advice or treatment in line with evidence-based medicine and standards of care. That includes giving patients exemptions from wearing masks when there’s no medical need, and prescribing ivermectin for COVID-19, the department said.

But the federation, which represents medical boards across the country, and many other doctors find such bills troubling. In this video titled"The Lesser Known Ultraviolet Killer" posted to YouTube on May 5, 2008, Dr. Joseph Mercola talks about"the dangers of sun exposure and how you can prevent yourself from cancer." About a dozen influential anti-vaxxers — including Chicago-born and trained physician Dr. Joseph Mercola — were responsible for nearly two-thirds of anti-vaccine content on social media, according to a report released by the Center for Countering Digital Hate last year.

At least a dozen state medical boards had disciplined medical professionals for spreading false information, as of this past fall, according to the federation.“Medical boards are supposed to enforce provisions in state medical practice acts, and they’ve failed to do that,” said Sawyer, with No License for Disinformation.

Doctors are allowed to have a option, science is question every thing. Covid-19 is the largest propaganda and misinformation campaign ever undertaken by the the US and the WHO. I only hope when the truth comes to light the guilty pay with their lives.

Should news papers and journalists who write bias news paper articles instead of independent researched fact.... I don't know what.... Stoned to death?

A doctor spreading false medical info on any disease, Rx, surgical procedure, etc. should lose license. Can’t doctors be advertised with warning labels? I’d like to believe all practice in good fairh, but now factor in pharma, Rx sales, Medicare, insurance, administration..

doctors who said if you take the jab you can't get COVID should lose their license. doctors who said if you get the jab you can't spread COVID should lose their license doctors who push the vaccine on healthy young children that have adverse effects should lose their license

I think doctors pushing jab agendas are just as bad and should be reprimanded.

Doctors spreading false info or holding back info aren't upholding their oath & are bought out by big pharma won't even treat the patients with a known medicine that works & are gas lighting the world about ivermectin saying it don't work shud lose their license
