Outpatient waiting lists grew by 98,000, or 18%, during the Covid-19 pandemic, HSE Chief Executive Paul Reid has told an Oireachtas committee | Read more:

Health Service Executive CEO Paul Reid and Secretary General of the Department of Health Robert Watt are due to appear before the Oireachtas Committee on Health this morning, where they are expected to discuss the implementation of Sláintecare.

He said there are not enough community beds to take people who should be transferred and a shortage of GPs means"far too many people are going to our emergency departments". "When people hear of patients over the age of 75 years of age, waiting over 24 hours in emergency departments, I think what people would be saying is 'here we go again back with a bang'", Mr Cullinane said. Questions must be asked of the HSE and the Department of Health as to why the figures vary across hospitals, he said.

— RTÉ News February 16, 2022 "This is just one month across all hospitals. Over the last number of years we've seen record levels of patients on trolleys, so it's a real problem right across the health service," he said.

MaryLouMcDonald MichealMartinTD Too many vested interests from top to bottom to reform, management to unions. These people are untouchable, can't sack them etc, until all in the health service agree to reform it won't happen and can't be forced through.

MaryLouMcDonald MichealMartinTD This so called slaintecare is a complete joke and an excuse not to fix the health system

He didn't answer the question.

Salary designed by Cronies for Cronies 🙄

There's another few dozen like this guy getting ridiculous salaries for the worst VFM health service on earth. Stop giving them a free pass. They need to be fired, not given more money to waste.

As for the ICT side of the recruitment, they are SO FAR from the competitive wages offered it'll be impossible to higher any quality or experienced people to move HSE forward. Complete salary imbalance across the HSE which affects the critical services and hamstrings recruitment

Maybe start with expanding places in university!

He means “impossible”

Another failure overseen by this man.. everyday we are seeing more and more failures. It’s time to make people accountable and change the management structure. LeoVaradkar MichealMartinTD DonnellyStephen

Waiting lists through the roof, depression, food prices, energy and zoom calls also. What a folly the over reaction to covid was! In this together to my ass!

Although, on your view, you praised government decisions and believe that lockdowns saved lives, and never, EVER questioned the government!

If RTE wasn't fear mongering, the waiting list wouldn't be growing to such an extent. You have your part in the blame here. RTE should be disbanded.
