World Health Organization regional director for Western Pacific Takeshi Kasai addresses the media at the start of the five-day annual session on Oct. 7, 2019 in Manila. Current and former staffers have accused Kasai of racist, unethical and abusive behavior that has undermined the UN health agency’s efforts to curb the coronavirus pandemic.

“I believe deeply and sincerely in WHO’s mission to serve all countries and people, and my belief in the importance of this mission drives every decision and action I take as regional di-rector,” he said.were contained in the internal complaint filed by current and former staff of the WHO regional office in Manila who also accused Kasai of unethical and abusive behavior.

“I also dispute the accusations of having shared confidential information about COVID-19 vaccination with Japan,” he maintained.
