The 12 health problems I'm asked about most by patients - from struggling to get it up to menopause

There’s an increased risk of ED with heart disease and diabetes, so it could be symptomatic of an undiagnosed condition or an already diagnosed condition. We can manage this with a prescription for Viagra.

That’s because if you know, it can be a useful indicator of when you will reach menopause. Blood tests can be useful to determine hormone levels for those under 45, but usually a diagnosis is based on symptoms alone. It’s worth remembering though that family planning clinics usually have greater experience in this area than GPs, so it might be a better place to start. You can find your nearest services by searching online. They will advise you what to do next.

Patients may come in under the premise of something else. Please don’t be afraid to tell your GP if it’s your mental health. I’m less concerned with repeated mild illnesses where symptoms are manageable with ibuprofen and paracetamol than I am when a parent presents with a child who is not gaining weight or thriving.

But I can tell you now – it is very rare for a brain tumour to present with a headache as the only symptom. This is an example of where I start a differential diagnosis while taking a medical history. I might prescribe a course of painkillers to help a patient get moving again or make a physiotherapist referral to help with specific exercises. GPs are very good at ruling out anything serious, so do make an appointment.

If a patient has an underlying lung condition, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder or asthma, we might prescribe antibiotics as there is a risk of a secondary bacterial infection, but for healthy people, letting a cold run its course is best.-DR ZOE SAYS: Long Covid is such a new condition, we’re still learning about it. This is another presentation where keeping a diary will help, though.

Pregnant woman 'vomiting blood' walks out of GP surgery after waiting 80 minutesMum-of-two Aimee Houston never even saw a GP at her medical practice, despite a lengthy wait of 80 minutes when no-one was waiting They brought her to the surgery....despite vomiting blood.....rather than send her to A&E. .....riiiiiiight. Not all surgeries are like that. My surgery is absolutely amazing. Yes, delays but the doctors there are great. In her case, should really go to A&E Vomiting blood in general, let alone when pregnant, is a medical emergency she should've called an ambulance or gone to A&E not a GP surgery, maybe the reason she was waiting so long is because the dr's at a GP surgery aren't equipped to handle that kind of situation.
