“The state mask mandate ban is not a policy that is aimed for the welfare of students and teachers,” said Noam Levinsky, a student at Park City High School. “It is a political move. If it was a policy for the welfare of students, it would acknowledge the fact that masks work to prevent [the spread of] COVID-19. If it was aimed at helping the welfare of students, it would respect schools that decide masks are best for their communities.
The organizers of the protest provided fill-in-the-blank signs to members of the crowd, allowing them to write who they were or what community they represented, followed by the words “for public health.” She and other teachers said they are dealing with unprecedented absenteeism rates and staff shortages in their schools.
