Six years after launching Parsley Health, Dr. Robin Berzin has built the service into the nation's leading holistic medicine provider, raising $100 million along the way. Now, the founder is bringing the company's ethos and approach to mental health to even more people with a new book.

The service operates on a membership model, which runs $175 a month and includes regular appointments with a clinician and a health coach and unlimited messaging so that you can build an ongoing relationship with them. Upon joining, members complete an in-depth health assessment, which one Parsley customer joked is so thorough that she felt more seen by it than her own boyfriend. “We really take the time,” Dr. Berzin says.

The Parsley Health founder wanted to call attention the issue and highlight the underlying relationship between physiology and psychology, but she also wanted to offer a concrete, actionable plan for addressing the physical barriers to mental health, so she decided to write a book on the matter. “In the beginning, it was kind of like an outlet for me to deal with everything happening in the world,” she says.

explores the science of optimizing the body to achieve higher levels of emotional stability, mental focus, and flow, and it includes a 30-day program for a total mind-body reset. “I wanted to really pull together all of the science and the data we’ve found since growing Parsley and make it understandable for pretty much anyone,” Dr. Berzin notes.

The author felt that mental health had long been presented as something that exists only in the head, leaving many to wonder how they could actually do anything about it. So, she wanted the book to show readers that this is not the actually the case and teach them how to start making a difference in their mental health immediately, effectively, and largely without cost.

“We don’t have time to wait; this has to be addressed today,” Dr. Berzin says. “And whether your mental health issue is contextual to the world we’ve all been living in for the past couple of years, you’ve experienced trauma, or you have a family history of depression, anxiety, or any of these issues, helping your body help your mind will improve how you feel and will equip you to better face your mental health condition.
