supplements really do prevent people developing an autoimmune disease, at least for those over 50, in a study providing the first evidence of a causal link between the two.
“The great thing about randomised trials is they really answer the question of causation,” says Costenbader. This revealed that a dose of 2000 international units of vitamin D per day reduced the development of autoimmune disease by 22 per cent, compared with the placebo. This is a larger dose than the standard 400 IU recommended by health organisations such as the UK’sIt is unclear how vitamin D prevents autoimmune disease, but we know it is processed in the body to produce an active form that can alter the behaviour of immune cells.
We know, now go tell the MSM.
Wasn’t this something that we knew since our high school days ? Publishing as if it’s news now !!!
I'm 49. I learned that Vitamin D was good for your immune system in junior high. My GI doc reminded me of this when I was diagnosed with Crohn's 19 years ago. How is this news?
No shit Sherlock
Repeating Joe Rogan disinformation?
Here comes big tech with the “Ackshually” post about things we already knew.
lol
But that’s what Joe Rogan was saying. Are you even a ‘real’ scientist?
Um…. This was ever in doubt
Yeah, Knew this from Rogan 2 years ago. “Misinformation” though…..right?
Go outside and get some Sun instead of cowering behind your lounge everytime covid is mentioned
You don’t say I heard it’s on the news week’s ago.😁

timspector does this change your views on vitamin d? Thank you.
OK I'm done with . No vit D is+ obtained from our sun or accurate artificial means of replicating that energy and wavelength required to create the vit D. It's a structure and vit d is one of the only ones that needs to be almost perfect. Supplements can't do that.
That's the price of bit D up 5,000% from today then.
It should be said that vitamin D is in no way a substitute for vaccination. Anti-vaxx dipshits see this and think it’s an alternative for vaccination.
vitaminD should be provided to everyone - for free and plenty It looks like The benefits clearly outweigh the risks The costs to do so clearly outweigh the opportunity costs of not doing ...and BigPharma will hate it Three very good reasons
great
Nope. You really are pushing my loyalty Mr new scientist. Vit d is one of the only vitamin structures that need to be almost perfect to get good acceptance. Em waves can provide it very well and our sun is the best at it in small doses. Noone needs to buy supplements for vit D!
Literally came across publications about Vit.D and cholinergic urticaria and wanted to try it 😳Big bro is really watching my steps huh...
Cod liver.
You guys never mentioned the VDR once, nor the fact that high dose vitamin D needs to be taken with vitamin K2 to prevent calcium deposits.
well known since centuries just the today's 'modern' world pretty much ignored it. They need to rediscover things sometimes.
I live in northern climes and I will go back onto vitamin D supplements. I have a healthy diet of oily fish but never get enough sunlight in winter. Prof Steve Jones' book Here Comes the Sun covers this subject.
then all africans would have autoimmune diseases
Just sit in sun light for vitamen D. Always avoid artificial suppliments.
Amazing! Does the natural vitamin D do the same thing?
