Dr. Kevin Smith, who is president and CEO of the University Health Network , told CTV News Channel on Sunday that the surge in COVID-19 cases is affecting capacity at the UHN's hospitals.
Data from Pfizer's 2,250-person clinical trial shows that the company's oral medication was around 89 per cent effective at preventing hospitalizations or deaths due to COVID-19 when compared against a placebo. There were also no deaths among the participants that took the Pfizer treatment. Pfizer's antiviral pill -- called Paxlovid -- works by preventing the SARS-CoV-2 virus from replicating itself in the patient's body.
Merck's antiviral pill, which was submitted on Aug. 13, is also awaiting approval from Health Canada. The U.S. authorized Merck's treatment in late December. "Timing for the completion of Health Canada’s review depends on many factors, including but not limited to a need for additional data, discussions with the sponsor, and requirements for updates to safety information," Health Canada spokesperson Mark Johnson said.
The Pfizer antiviral (Covid treatment) drug may be approved by Feb. 1 for Canada BUT: There will be a shortage of Paxlovid One major sticking point for Canada and the world is manufacturing capacity.
can I have what the nfl players are having?
Anyone going to google japans COVID numbers after treating covid using ivermectin? Common journalists… 12 days after they started using it the numbers went down. Japan. Not joe Rogan. Japan.
Hmmm... Don't we already have an affordable generic med that's been administered millions of times the past 40 years? One that's extremely safe & effective when prescribed by a physician. A WHO essential med whose inventor won the Nobel prize...? Ivermectin RegulatoryCapture
F O
Or …. Just approve any number of repurposed drugs that have shown to be effective and already proven to be safe !!!
according to experts these cases counts are being duplicated without verifying and presented without context to public health, don't always give an accurate picture of how the pandemic is being impacted.
Curious - when this gets approved... how in any way, will any vaccine mandates be rationalized There would be an alternative... so... ?
CEO paid by Pfizer to promote new drug. Fixed the headline
It’s a joke when the pill will be manufactured in Canada yet it’s not approved. Keep focusing on lockdowns, never mention treatments and keep pumping us with vaccine. Doesn’t sound sustainable GovCanHealth
👍👍
Just as an FYI it can not be used for everyone and carries some serious side effects with people on other medications (for heart/depression/inhalers/HIV treatments etc..

It won't matter in Ontario. It needs to be taken 3-5 days from onset. In Ontario you cannot be tested so won't benefit from this medicine until you are a medical emergency being admitted in hospital and then it's too late for this drug to be effective.
🤝
Lmfao it’s not gonna do shit but make more work. Something new to track and observe… ah these past few years have been one hell of an experiment.
CTVNews Approval yes, but production will take close to a year before it is available.
Seems planned …
CTVNews But if they did that it would solve the problem of hospitalizations and then what would they use to wield their power?
Let’s see…health authorities representing almost half a billion people have approved, but Canada is still futzing around?
Because they ask? Already being reviewed.
CTVNews I'm not vaccinated and screw taking the pill lol.
