Queensland has again broken its daily COVID record, reporting 1589 new cases on Wednesday.
Speaking in Caboolture, Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said the latest figure brought Queensland’s total case number to 8534, of which 6368 were still active.Those new cases were detected from about 35,000 tests conducted on Tuesday. It was an increase on Tuesday’s 1158 new cases, but Dr Gerrard said there were no COVID cases in Queensland’s ICUs, which was an indication that vaccines were working.
Dr Gerrard said the number of people in ICU was the “most critical” number authorities were monitoring. Police Minister Mark Ryan said 86.14 per cent of eligible Queenslanders were fully vaccinated, while 90.49 per cent had received a single dose.
