A battle with cancer ended Marrickville councillor Emanuel Tsardoulias’s life of public service. Now his wife, Zoi, will carry his mantle as she takes a seat on the Inner West Council | AngusGthompson

A Marrickville councillor of six years, a one-time deputy mayor, community volunteer and local businessman, he was known to be on the phone with constituents until the “wee hours of the night”.

“Emanuel would have been my greatest support,” Ms Tsardoulias said. “Emanuel approached every task with enthusiasm, optimism, and commitment and I believe I can also do the same and honour his legacy.” The Marrickville ward team campaigned on expanding electric vehicle charging stations, boosting household recycling services, and increasing services such as verge mowing and street cleaning.

“I just thought I needed to give something back to the community, that’s what prompted me,” she said. “I’ll give it a crack.”
