Queensland's Health Minister Yvette D'Ath says the move to bring forward COVID booster shots caught her by surprise. It comes as Queensland Health prepares for a surge in cases in the coming weeks.

But most pharmacies are expected to be open over the Christmas break because it is their busiest time of year.

"On any particular day, a particular pharmacy may have more demand than they expected but we are able to meet that," he said.
