Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath has issued a plea to residents as the state recorded 589 COVID-19 cases on Friday.

Case numbers have surged in Queensland in recent days, up from 369 on Thursday, 186 on Wednesday and 86 on Tuesday.

Ms D'Ath said with rising infections in the community it was crucial residents were wearing masks where they are required. "We have seen about two-thirds of the population probably complying with those rules at the moment, it is not fair to those people who are doing the right thing for those not wearing their masks, to let everyone down."

It is this almost indefensible problem with the extreme infectious Omicron that everyone should shield hospital staff at all costs.Has to be No1 priority ..if one careless staff gets it, Omicron can spread like wildfire and close down Hospitals to everyone

How many are in ICU by omicron? Or only positive test results with very mild or no symptoms?

Vaccine doesn't work!

How do you pronounce that surname? Death.

If YvetteDAth had ensured that sufficient funding was going into ambulance and hospitals instead of letting AnnastaciaMP waste it on sport and the beautiful people perhaps a different story.

Health Minister says stable COVID-19 ICU cases 'heartening', despite Omicron explosionHealth Minister Greg Hunt says that, despite the growth in COVID-19 cases, there has been no serious rise in patients on ventilators nor in ICU, calling that a 'heartening' sign ahead of Christmas. The fact your actually in ICU means unstable.. thats not a good thing at any rate ! No justification.. Only suffering . Most knows you should look at the number after 14 days. And interestingly, previously politicians talk about case, then later focus on hospitalization, now they only focus on ICU, eventually, they will just talk about the death cases. What about LongCovid? There's so little reporting on whether omicron will lead to proportionately more or fewer cases than delta.
